Deformations
Deformations in captive-bred Loricariinae are known for several species of this subfamily. Most susceptible seem to be offspring of species of the genus Loricaria.
There are a number of proposed explanations for the appearance of deformations:
- Poor water quality
- Unsuitable water chemistry
- Inadequate nutrition
- Raising with insufficient individual space
- Artificial raising without parental contact
We are working to test these assumptions systematically and to develop practical methods to avoid deformations in captive breeding.
